Wow! This and episode 2 are neck and neck for best of the year. Some major disclosures tonight, including one that totally ripped apart who I thought was a definite member of the "Oceanic 6". I have no guess as to what might happen to bring about this future.

1 I had the opposite reaction; I felt it was a wasted episode. We already knew Kate was one of the Oceanic 6 from the season 3 finale, for the same reason we knew she was going to get off for her crimes, and it wasn't super hard to connnect the dots from the Hurley and Jack flash-forwards to figure out that the escapees weren't telling anything close to the ful story of the crash and its aftermath. Most notably, the completely random, too clumsily inserted appearance of Clare earlier on in the episode telegraphed the ending big-time. I'm getting really tired of people interrogating other people, particularly Ben -- could we have a one-month moratorium on torture scenes?

Why was Kate's trial held in California? Didn't her (step)father live in the Midwest somewhere?

So if there were EIGHT survivors who are the two that aren't part of the Oceanic 6?

Why does Clare always have Patsy Cline playing around her?

The best part of the last line of the episode was that I completely missed it at first. I thought Kate said "Hi Eric," at which point I was about to call and brag to my friend that he was named after the father!

I watched again just to be sure, and then caught the full brunt of it.

I agree on the interrogation scenes, although I liked Locke growing a pair tonight with the grenade. However, it's probably a dud grenade anyway.

Kate's house looks like its in the same neighborhood as the Brady Bunch.

Kate committed her crime in Iowa, was tried in Los Angeles, and then took the magic cab that deposited her in Honolulu.

Does Aaron count as one of the Oceanic 6? I'm guessing not.

I have to believe that Sayid Bourne doesn't count as one of the Oceanic 6 and people don't believe he's still alive. And Ben likely slipped back unnoticed.

I think Jack, Kate, and Hurley are the only confirmed 3 of the Oceanic 6. Aaron shouldn't count since he wasn't on the plane.

Not that I'm trying to get all Roe v. Wade on people.

2 - Mark, glad to have your thoughts, but please don't reveal any details until West Coast viewers have had their chance to finish the episode.

By far, the worst episode of the season. I'm still not sure if it is the actress or the actual character of Kate that drains more life from Lost.

Penarol just hates Kate...
I dont get it.
I like the girl's spunk, but to each their own.

I will agree though that this episode did suck. In fact, I think the last 2 episodes have been weak. I dont think this season has contained the amount of anticipation, tension, and mystery as the last season did.

The new characters arent very good at all. I think they'd tried to use Miles as comic relief, but it just isnt working.

So if there were EIGHT survivors who are the two that aren't part of the Oceanic 6?

I thought Jack said that there were 8 survivors, but 2 of them died. He was obviously lying. The oceanic 6 were the ones that got off the island, and they told everyone once they got off that they were the only survivors. Hence, Jack/Kate know they have to go back to get the survivors they deserted. Plus, you have Hurley being visited by Charley in the 1st episode about knowing he has to go back.

All of this stuff is intriguing, but not near as good as the stuff in season 3 IMO.

I have a feeling that the people on the boat that are looking for Ben, are people associated with the original DHARMA initiative. They know Ben killed everyone of their people on the island, and they've been looking for him to extract revenge. That would explain why Ben didnt want them coming to the island in the first place.

I miss Ben's manipulative scenes. I think he's best when he sounds really weak, but the audience knows he's being a master manipulator. The scene last week at the end where he was Sayid's commander--just seemed out of place for him. He appeared too forceful IMO.

I thought last week's episode was great.

Ben seems to have a command over people, whether he's forceful or not. His underlings always get the "you know what you have to do" vibe, whether it be Sayid, The Russian, or the two women in The Looking Glass. Michael Emerson seems to act more with his eyes than anyone, almost like Michael Corleone at Solozzo's.

10 Sorry, I watched the episode on slight tape delay after "Idol" and I didn't even think about it.

I want to write down right here that yes, Aaron is one of the Oceanic 6 (because the previews said "another member of the 6 will be revealed" and Kate had been revealed already in the Seaason 3 finale) and I feel 70-80% sure that the last guy is Michael.

8 I was with you Bob, but then realized that the previews for the Sayid episode mentioned that we would find out the next member of the Oceanic 6.

If it turns out, however, that Sayid is not part of the 6, my guess would be that he is the one in the coffin. If he is part of the 6, his celbrity would have been to great to get no visitors at his viewing.

re: 8
I think Sayid also mentioned to his love interest that "he would tell her where she knew him" from, when she asked, "Do I know you" and later in episode three she mentioned him being on the flight that crashed. I'd guess he wouldn't be telling people he was on the flight if he wasn't one of the oceanicSIX. As they'd be able to check that, or remember it pretty easily.
