Still a fresh and interesting show. I wouldn't mind if they went away from the crime fighting angle at some point. Maybe turning it into fulfilling requests from the grave like what Chuck would do.
While we were watching Daisies, my wife brought up the comparison to Amelie (which we had been watching earlier in the day on the TiVo), so I find it funny that its being compared here and also on IMDB to Amelie. She says its more of the vibe (looks & styles wise) of the director Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amelie, Delicatessen & A Very Long Engagement). She wouldn't have been surprised if someone had told her that he directed Daisies.
I find it interesting that ABC has such an ecclectic 3 hours w/ Daisies being so quirky, Private Practice being the normal one and Dirty Sexy Money being the exact over the top opposite of Daisies. Makes for fun viewing.
I really want to love "Pushing Daisies" as much as others do it, but there's just something about it that makes it seem somewhat distant and off-putting at times.
But the show will get many more strikes than other shows get to try to win me over.
"A lot of people (myself included) have compared it with Tim Burton, but maybe the better comparison is to the movies of Wes Anderson. Like Anderson's films, this show may be less about any story than about the creation of a private world, the display of gorgeous esoteric jewels, the evocation of emotion through image. "
The Office is an hour long again tonight. Is it going to be an hour long from now on? I vaguely remember talk of doing that, but don't remember how it was resolved.
While I'm not totally sold, I like it better than any other new show right now. Entire episodes are on NBC's website. I caught up with the pilot that way and found it intriguing.
I don't get "Pushing Daisies" at all. Sorry. It makes me feel pummelled by niceness. Kind of like that show "Ed." But I know I'm not being fair because both times it's been on, I've turned it off after about 10 minutes because I can't stand it. Maybe there is something revelatory that happens if you stick with it?
I still love Pushing Daisies, and I am looking forward to seeing how they keep it going. But, it does seem like it will be difficult to do, and I can see myself getting tired of the narration. I have picked up with Heroes again, but I do not like the writing they have done with the High School boy who is befriending Claire. I just don't understand why he would run away after seeing her cut her toe and then be willing to fly in broad daylight. Just seems like poor editing to me.
By the way does anyone else have a spouse that loves reality tv, but you can't stand it? My wife's guilty pleasures are MTV reality and channel 13. I have to leave the room when The Hills is on because they make me so angry.
You have a good point on that one. There was one scene cut where I did get a bit tired of the tempo this last episode, but it was all gone halfway through. It does look like the shows drama is going to turn away from crime solving next week when Chuck finds out about the Funeral Parlor Director.

Really enjoyed Pushing Daisies. It had a real European film kind of feel to it ala Amelie. It was by leaps and bounds the best new show I've seen this year, and probably in 3 or 4 years.
Thanks you very much

And cynical.
But, yes, keeping the magic going will be quite a challenge!
I love the color and the whole style, but the stories aren't grabbing me so far.
The crime-solving angle is getting kind of annoying.
I do like the style, and I can appreciate what they're trying to do...but, somehow, as Bob said, I'm just not feeling grabbed...

Good news, everyone: Flight of the Conchords season 1 has been announced for DVD, Nov 6. That's flippin' hot.

It's interesting how several of the new shows this season revolve centrally around death. Guess it's on our national minds these days.

24 - No, if you don't like the tone, it won't get any better if you keep watching.
On the other hand, I thought Life was weak.
