Office fave Jenna Fischer fractured her back in four places after a fall down a marble staircase. Recovery is expected to take four to six weeks. Screen Jam wishes her the absolute best.

Mark mentioned the cancelation of Carnivale in the last thread.

That one hurt. A LOT. I'll never understand why it didn't get another season.

Carnivale was a great (I'm using the word "Great" here) show.

Not just any staircase, a marble staircase.

Does NBC call someone up from AAA?

2- But clearly not a crystal stair.

So does OSHA or some such get involved?

OSHA would only get involved if the accident happened on the job. If it's a slip and fall on some other time, then you just go with the old fashioned personal injury suit.

They don't say where this staircase was. Presumably people don't put marble staircases in buildings that aren't public, so it's quite likely that building inspectors had to sign off on everything.

I can't imagine that there are many building where workers have to use marble stairs as part of their job. Except for people who have a job cleaning marble staircases.

I took it that the staircase is in the NBC headquarters; other stories say that she was helping pitch the NBC schedule to advertisers, so, where ever it was, it seems work related.

Get well soon, Jenna. I love you in a very non-stalkerish, appreciative of you abilities kind of way.

8 - I wonder if it was related to the upfronts? I think so, since the article mentioned Angela staying with her on Monday and Tuesday. The upfronts were on Monday.

2 - Yeah, and not she slipped on a marble and fell down the staircase

I still don't see what OSHA would do about someone falling down a staircase. It happens not infrequently. The people who own the property would have to be shown to be negligent, such as making the staircase wet and not telling anyone.

But people slip and fall a lot. And people wearing high heels are more prone to it.

Maybe SAG or AFTRA would complain, but I doubt that.

I slipped and fell in a stairwell at work because I went down it too quickly and it was raining outside and the stairwell was wet. I'm still not sure how I didn't break anything. I didn't do the full Scarlett O'Hara tumble, but more of an unceremonious fall on my butt, but somehow not having my head the ground, which kept me from big trouble.

According to the latest figures from the National Safety Council, which are from 2003, 1588 people died falling up or down steps or stairs. You have a 1 in 183,155 chance of dying this way in one year.

In the same year, only 47 people died from being hit by lightning.

13 How does one fall up stairs exactly?

Any word on whether or not she was pushed by Karen?
