It's Premiere Night 2007 for The Sopranos and Entourage. Remember, my Sopranos package at Variety can be found here.
I'm also an Entourage watcher, although I think the hype about the show got a little out of control last year. It's fun and fairly clever and strangely believable, but it never makes me think I'm watching exceptional television. That's no slam - just my own personal reality check.
I concur.
There were so many things that made me smile (Carmella popping out from between the covers, "Happy Birthday), shake my head (Tony firing a fully automatic rifle the day after he gets arrested on a gun charge) or gasp (the fight!).
How about Carm asking "Is this it?" at the beginning of the episode? That sense of dread hanging over this season (highlighted by the revelation of the FBI's five year RICO case against Tony) was solidified in that moment.
I felt a little sad when Janis was retelling the story of her and Ritchie, it was pathetic that she was using it to hint at Tony beating Carmella. And Carmella still looks great in a swimsuit.
You're in a world of hurt.
And in a miracle of miracles, Janice has very slowly become less hateable every season. Not likeable, but less manipulative and disgusting.
What a great episode.
Nevertheless, the way Bobby hugged his daughter at the end broke my heart.
And I have no problem rooting for the "bad guys" on the show. It's just a show.
And congratulations to AJ for remaining the single most useless child in the history of television. Man, I hate that kid.
Johnny Drama was brilliant in playing the relationship guru. Can't wait to hear how bad the review is for "Five Towns" How long before Vince sleeps with Carla Gugino's character?
Don't answer that.
