Open Chats at Screen Jam - Spoiler Alert
2006-09-18 10:16
by Jon Weisman

Open chats will be a feature at Screen Jam, but with time zones, tapes and TiVo affecting everyone's viewing habits, we'll want to make sure we don't spoil everyone's viewing.

  • If it's a show like Lost in which you're likely to see it an hour or four before me, I'll set up a specific thread so that you can chat about it while not ruining the suspense for others.

  • Beyond that, if I ask you to hold off on revealing plot details on any given show in the comments, I hope you won't mind.

  • Also, please don't discuss "scenes from next week's episode" or commercial teasers in the comments. Those, to me, are spoilers. Just this year, for example, the kiss between Jim and Pam was thoughtlessly disclosed in promos for the season finale of The Office.

You might also want to mention that if people post links to external articles they should mention it if the article contains spoilers.

Also, previews and promos as spoilers? That's strict. I'm an admin at a TV-based net community, and our policy has always been that anything broadcast is fair game. I will abide here, however.

(I do agree that promos reveal too much, and often destroy those "Holy cow!" moments, but they're almost impossible to avoid.)

1 - I hear you, but they're easily avoidable if you try. Turn off your TV before the teasers appear, and don't watch commercials for shows you already watch. I've basically avoided them for years.

Yeah, I was really mad about "The Office"'s promos for the season finale. Harrumph.

3 - With difficulty, after consulting with my circle of advisors and seeing what was and wasn't taken already.

It helped that jam goes nicely on toast.

I don't recall signing off on this name? Is this a sign that I'm outside the inner circle?

I signed you off in absentia.

I think I'm just in the intermediate circle.
