For anybody who watched Friday Night Lights last night and knows about college football, is there any good reason for Smash to want to avoid going to the small, black college if he wants to go to the NFL? I know practically nothing about football, but it seemed sensible to me that Smash would want to go to a school with a well-known football program. However, a friend of mine says that plenty of great NFL players have come out of small colleges, and that Smash would be best off going someplace where he wouldn't be just a small fish in a big pond. I still think NFL teams are going to prefer to see a guy play for a top program and against top competition, so if Smash wants to have any chance of being a top draft pick someday, he better try to get into a school that is big in the world of college football. Your thoughts, please?

A quadruple post, wow. Sorry for that, but my comment was not showing up on screen, so I kept hitting the submit button, and I guess we see what happens when you do that.

Good NFL players have come out of small colleges, but they have more to prove because they're marked down for not having been tested against higher-quality opponents. It's not the dead end that Smash seems to think it is, but for someone whose first goal is the NFL, it makes sense for him to try to get into a higher caliber football program.

The potential downside is that the chance that Smash would get beaten out by another great recruit, but that doesn't seem like the kind of challenge he would worry about.

I have an FNL post at Season Pass.

High school stars are also drawn to the big colleges because they want to play games in front of big crowds and show up on TV a lot.

The college recruiter depicted in FNL was from a private school I believe, akin to Fisk or Howard. They might have one game a year shown on BET.

What would Bill Cosby say?

Bill Cosby would tell Smash Williams to go to Temple.

It has a great football tradition.

I saw No Country today. I think I need to see it again before I offer any opinion.

Do you want to see it twice?

Call it?

I said "call it".

It's just a coin.

I've got a couple of WGA strike links at my place today.

One's a brief history of the WGA and its relations with producers; the other's a link to a new history of screenwriting.

Does anybody watch Gilmore Girls? This lady is so awesome. The mom I mean. She's such a good actor. And cute as hell. And just so (insert appropriate French phrase).

I know people don't talk this way in real life, what with the fast off-the-cuff dialogue, but who CARES! How can writers get truly expressive if they don't leave the "real" talk of mundane human interaction?

Anyway this lady is hot in so many ways besides the sexual. I mean, that too, but so much more.

You'd have to know the political intentions of the writers to decipher that one. Anyway, it shouldn't be too hard.

Was this episode of House taped after the strike started? Maybe the writing team just isn't terrific at wrapping things up; the end of the House on Trial plot line wasn't terrific, either.

Any word on the negotiations?

This weeks Heroes was quite good. I just hope that doesn't mean it will regress next week.

Yes I did, and yes she is. If you want to see her in a different role check out Bad Santa.

Looks like the strike has affected Screen Jam's writing crew as well ;)

Just wanted to say that 30 Rock was pretty good last night, pretty much up to par with what I've grown accustomed to in the 2nd season but without as many truly memorable lines. Jack's Churchill jab at the team was quite classic though.
