Tell Me About Low Ratings

Fewer than a million viewers tuned in for the series premiere of HBO's Tell Me You Love Me, according to John Dempsey of Variety.com.

ABC's "Cavemen" was not popular at all among the TV critics previewing the fall 2007 pilots, but at Season Pass, I try to point out the show's saving graces.

So I guess that means it has a strong chance of getting the axe. Seems like a run of bad luck for HBO with JFC and Lucky Louie being canceled after one season and Tell Me You Love Me on its way there. In addition, Carnivale, Deadwood, and Rome did not have long runs.

1 - I doubt it would get the axe midseason. That's not really how HBO works. Just like JFC, it might not get renewed, though.

Yeah, I just worded that wrong way.

Since the wise writers of Variety have told me that "Tell Me You Love Me" is worth watching, I will give it one more shot.

But I'm ready to hit that delete button on the DVR.

The first episode was interesting, but the sex was so incredibly explicit that my first impression was only: "Holy crap, I can't believe what I just saw!" I will definitely be back, if only to see what I missed while I was putting my eyeballs back in their sockets, and I imagine that eventually some other people will check it out, for the opposite reason. HBO seems to have trouble with shows that don't have obvious hooks or a little quirk. What are JfC or TMYLM about? Where is the quirk? The flourish that announces that it is a good show?

Looking through the network offerings for new shows, I gotta say this is the least excited I've been. There isn't a single show that I think I need to watch that. The only 3 that I am thinking about trying are Pushing Daisies (sounds like a little too much of a love story angle for my tastes) Reaper (is it funny, cool, exciting?) and Journeyman. I won't be surprised if even those 3 are off my watch list by November.

Cavemen is a bit too much like Teen Wolf Too, just without all the montages. Surprisingly, its not really badly written so much as its just insanely questionable. Questionable taste, questionable plot decisions, questionable everything. I've yet to see the actual pilot but I read the script and there were some funny parts and there were some horrible parts....

4- I watched the second episode On Demand. It's better, but not good. No spoilers, but Sonya Walger's sister appears; she has no accent.

I'm done with it.

I'm late to the party, and there's a good chance no one will ever read this, but I thought the only remotely interesting couple (in the first episode) was the couple with kids who are no longer "active". The two younger couples are boring and make me really aware that I'm watching actors, not real people. The older couple is fine, though the notion of senior sex is no longer avant-garde in my view. It's a bit passe.

Again, the only storyline that interests me is the couple with kids.
